Why to Read Tolkien and Lewis*

Everyone should read J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and C.S Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. Why, you ask? Well, let me tell you.

Number one: Tolkien’s LotR(Lord of the Rings) is the epitome of worldbuilding. His Middle Earth is portrayed in a way that makes you want to be there, even with Orcs running around. It feels so real, you can’t help but wonder if it is real. As for Lewis’s CoN(Chronicles of Narnia), the feeling that you could just walk into your wardrobe- or closet- and be in a magical land with all sorts of wonderful things is one I will never forget.

Number two: I may be a bit biased here, but the characters of both series are portrayed in such a way that you can believe that they are real, that you could meet them on the street and say hello, and they’d be your best friends forever. Frodo and Edmund’s character arcs are extremely relatable and draw a longing for the Truth. They show how corrupt we can be, but also that we can be redeemed.

Number three: They are both classics that have shaped the world we live in. In my circles, if you start talking about Gandalf or Legolas, everyone knows what you are talking about. Same goes for Aslan and Lucy Pevensie. They are instantly recognizable, so if you are totally lost right now, go read the books!

So there you have it. Three reasons why you should go and get the books today and read them as soon as they come. And if you are saying, ‘What about the movies?’ just trust me. The books will give you an experience you will never forget (the movies are fine, but the books are better). Go on a journey through a wardrobe with a group of races that are trying to take the One Ring to Mordor, and see the battle of good versus evil unfold.

*Totally random Nonfiction. Defiantly not doing this much.
