We are surrounded by people claiming to know the truth- and that that truth is the only thing that can be true. But all those conflicting stories can draw one thing to mind. What is really the truth?
The Bible says that God is truth. It spells out the history of the world with an eyewitness account.
For example, the beginning of the world. Some say it’s millions of years old and evolved by chance. But that is only a theory. The Bible says, ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’(Genesis 1:1). And this account comes from the One who created it. What better source do you have about the beginnings?
If you ask why there is so much death and suffering in the world, the Bible has the answer to that too. It’s in the third chapter of Genesis. Man had one rule: never to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yet when the trickster came, man was persuaded to break the law of God and eat the forbidden fruit.
That was when the world broke. Everything spiraled into sin. Men were immortal before, but now they die. Animals killed each other. One day, men started killing each other(Gen. 4). It seemed as if all hope could be lost- if it wasn’t for God’s promise that the seed of the woman would one day crush the serpent’s head(Gen 3).
Years passed. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes. God looked down from heaven and was displeased. He could only find one person out of the thousands that feared Him. So God decided to send a world-wide flood to wipe out the current population.
Before He did so, he told the righteous man- Noah- to build an ark that could fit two of all the land dwelling creatures. I can imagine the jeering that came when Noah told others. After all, there had been no rain on the earth yet!
The flood came and destroyed the civilization that had lived there before. Nothing was left except for that which had gone on the ark. About a year later, Noah got off the ark to face a whole new world.
But the flood had not solved man’s sin problem. They still rebelled against their Creator. They still needed the seed of the woman to crush the serpent’s head.
Fast-forward several centuries. A man is standing in the midst of a crowd, teaching. He doesn’t look like much, but the message He preaches sounds like something from the prophets.
Soon afterwards, though, the crowds that listened to Him preach are shouting ‘Crucify Him’! The governor of Judea tells them that he could find no fault with the man, but they only shout louder.
So the man goes to the cross. Everything becomes dark, and there is an earthquake. Someone calls out, ‘Surely this is the Son of God’!
A loud cry splits the air. ‘It is finished!’. Everything returns to the state it was before.
In three days, you begin hearing rumors that someone had been raised from the dead. The disciples of this man come out and begin preaching boldly of Christ. They say that he was crucified, then rose on the third day, crushing the serpent’s head. This was the promised Messiah.
All you have to do is accept the message to become a child of the King. To be wiped clean of your sin. To have blessed communion with your Creator again.
You can be set free from the bonds of sin.
‘You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.’
Thank you for sharing, Ellie. What a Christ honoring post.
